The best parts of this school is the diverse student body. There are over 2,000 students in the school, and with that there is a place for everyone. There are many clubs, sports, and activities to choose from. In my experience throughout Albemarle I have participated in track and field for 2 years. Then I joined the varsity lacrosse team my junior year which was a great experience. We did have our downfalls throughout the season, but overall it was an amazing experience which I am looking forward for my senior year. Along with lacrosse, I have also joined varsity field hockey this year, and am looking forward to making closer relationships with my teammates and having a memorable last season at the school. Other than sports, Albemarle's core classes are a good way to get yourself ready for deciding a major in the future. The school has many counselors to take account for all the students, making sure everyone has someone that works for them and their goals.

Our overarching policies have placed much less focus on academics and more focus students taking repeated national surveys (which cost our county THOUSANDS) and result in a document telling our leaders information that the teachers/school level administrators already know! Our school system adopts elementary level reading programs that are not approved by the Department of Education and then spend wasted years wondering why our elementary aged students are struggling. We have extremely dedicated teachers who are increasingly frustrated at policies in place that make teaching less focused on education. Our school system garnered national attention at our most recent school board election over the divisive ways that our leaders have chosen to lead. Our post Covid recovery plan has been less than impressive and aimless, but we will keep fighting and representing voices that are underrepresented! Our children are our future.

Never have I ever complained or thought about switching high schools. I adore AHS and especially the teachers, they are all wonderful people that are passionate about their jobs. They are also quick to helps students, and with a little effort you'll definite be able to create a personal relationship with each and every one of them. Our principle knows how to run things. I enjoy the efforts the students are making and the every day projects that pops up through out the year. AHS is great at putting events together and even though we don't have a lot of field trips anymore, the school throws in a lot of spirt week, social media connection, and art contests.
